The maximum length allowed by the Sony/Philips red book standard is 74 minutes (one hour and 14 minutes). However CDs as long as 79 minutes or more can be manufactured. Usually manufacturing plants do not guarantee the performance of very long CDs as they can be more prone to playback errors.

What is an Enhanced CD?

An enhanced CD is a CD which plays nomally in a CD player yet contains computer files which may be read by a computer CD-ROM drive. This is normally achieved by creating the CD in two sessions. The first session contains the audio portion and the second session contains the computer data portion.

Can I "sit in" on my mastering session?

If you wish to attend your mastering session that can be arranged. However unlike our "hour-per-song" or "overall" packages, mastering with client in attendance is treated like a conventional studio session. The mastering session begins when you arrive and ends when the mastering is completed to your satisfaction. As you are able to hear the changes as they are made and influence the choices, you approve the final sound in the studio during the course of the session. Under these circumstances we would not able tooffer our normal guarantee. If you wished to make any subsequent revisions you would need to book additional studio time.

How loud can you make my CD?

We can certainly make your CD as loud as any other commercially released CD. However there is a trade-off between loudness and quality. Beyond a certain point, the lounder you make the recording the more artifacts will  be introduced. The clarity of the recording may begin to be lost and drums and bass in particular can begin to sound distorted. Making a CD sound louder doesn't guarantee that a song will sound louder on the radio. In fact the multi-band compressors at the radio stations are designed to bring up the level of quieter songs and bring down the level of lounder material. We treat every project uniquely and if you have any concerns or opinions about  the loudness issue, please bring that to our attention when you submit your materials.

What formats can I send my master in on?

At present we accept DAT, CD-R, minidisc, or Jaz media containing WAV or AIFF files. We can also transfer material sent in on vinyl record or 1/4" tape.
