Here
are some of the tools that see regular use in our studio:
Manley's
Variable-Mu Compressor/Limiter is a staple of mastering studios
worldwide and has been used on countless major label record
releases. Based on the circuitry and design of the legendary
Fairchild 670, the impeccable audio characteristics of the Manley
Variable-Mu works magic on every mix passed through it.
The
SADiE Mastering
Limiter and Graphical EQ are among the finest and most powerful
algorithms of their kind.
The
Weiss DS1 is one of the best
compressors in the world, analog or digital. It is unbelievably
transparent. It is also a superb frequency conscious compressor
and de-esser.
Apogee's
UV-22 noise-shaped dithering process is very well known and
has been used on countless hit records. It is a way of encoding
18 or 19 bits of resolution into a 16 bit CD master.
The
Meridian 518 Digital Processor also has very sophisticated
noise-shaped dither options as well as other very useful functions
such as de-jittering and sophisticated de-emphasis EQ curves.
The
popular Waves
suite of plug-in processors are very high quality and are based
on the work of renowned psycho-acoustician Michael Gerzon.
Sony's
DPS-V77 digital processor is another audio "swiss army
knife" containing, amongst other things, very high quality
reverb, warm sounding EQ and the algorithms from Sony's DAL-1000
digital limiter (only this time with 24-bit digital I/O, 56-bit
internal resolution).
We
also have
TC Electronic's well respected multi-band compressor in
the form of the TC Finalizer 96K.
Finally,
our most important tools: the ears on the sides of the heads
of our mastering engineers!
